Acne
Acne is a common skin disease characterised by breakouts on the face, chest, and back. It occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria.
It can be categorized in grades 1-6 (Grade 1 minimal breakouts on small area; Grade 6 deep and superficial breakouts, comedones and cysts on larger areas often painful to touch)
The causes of acne are thought to be hormonal changes through puberty, pregnancy, menopause or illness but may also be due to genetic predisposition, drug use, allergies and diet.

Pigmentation
Pigmentation is the colouring of the skin, hair, mucous membranes, and retina of the eye due to the deposition of melanin which is a colouring matter. The melanin is produced by specialised cells called melanocytes.
Problems with pigment include hyper-pigmentation (too much pigment), hypo-pigmentation (too little pigment), and de-pigmentation (loss of pigment). These problems can be caused through sun damage, radiation exposure, hormonal changes, ageing, genetic predisposition and injury/scarring.
Treating pigmentation effectively needs to include use of daily sun protection and topical agents which brighten, calm and also assist in inhibiting further pigmentation from forming.

Clinic Aesthetic have two delivery systems for hair removal - Laser and Prowave.
Laser
The state of the art Cutera laser, it will treat all skin tones from light to dark including tanned skin. The laser has a longer wavelength which allows extremely effective, safe and permanent hair reduction. It treats all parts of the body and also includes those sensitive areas.
No local or topical anaesthesia is generally needed. The sensation of mild stinging or smarting may be experienced. For those more sensitive areas, some ice beforehand may be preferred and can be applied.
Most areas may require 4-6 treatments and will generally depend on the hair thickness, the area treated and hair growth cycle.
Prowave
Prowave is a specially tailored light source engineered only for permanent hair reduction. It provides treatment for a wide range of skin types and has the ability to treat large areas quickly and safely.
Prowave can remove hair from all parts of the body and can also treat sensitive areas. Again , no local or topical anaesthesia is generally needed.
Most areas may require 4-6 treatments and that will depend on the hair thickness, the area treated and the hair growth cycle.
This system increases your comfort and minimizes the adverse skin reactions seen with other light sources.

Veins
Spider veins are mainly found on cheeks, chin, legs and nose. They can appear from any age however are more likely to occur from around the age of forty onwards.
These veins usually occur from injury, extremes of weather, aging, standing in one spot for long period of time over a long time, pregnancy and are hereditary.
Treatment
Laser treatment is the treatment of choice. The laser heats the blood vessels and causes the blood to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by the body. The number of treatments necessary will depend on the number of vessels and colour and size of the vessels being treated.
After a treatment, most normal activities can be resumed. However, it is recommended that you avoid strenuous exercises for the first 24 hours post treatment. It is good to avoid direct sun exposure and the use of sun protection is strongly advised.

During a Pearl treatment, the top layer of the skin is treated with pulses of light. A portion of the epidermis (skin surface) is gently removed and a natural protective dressing is formed on the skin's surface. Most patients feel a series of brief pinches during the treatments. After 3-4 days, the protective dressing peels off revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.
The Pearl laser replaces the entire top sun-damaged layer of skin with new healthy skin. Simultaneously, it sends heat to deeper layers of the skin stimulating new collagen growth, filling out and decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. What is "social" downtime?
Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With "social" downtime, you can continue your normal daily activities. However, you may not wish to attend important social events because your face will appear pink/red for 3-4 days.
What is a Pearl treatment like?
The practitioner guides the Pearl laser over the skin, gently removing the top layer of the epidermis and heating a layer of tissue below it. The treatment takes approximately 10-15 minutes for a full face. The treatment feels like a series of brief pinches.
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 representing pain, most people report the treatment feeling like a 2 or 3.
What can I expect after the treatment?
After treatment, the skin will look like it is sunburned. Your practitioner will apply ointment on the skin to keep it moist. The skin will need to be kept moist for 34 days. Since you cannot wear sunscreen during this time, you will need to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure for a few days following the treatment. You are free to wear make-up starting on day 3.
After 3-4 days, the top layer of skin peels off revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.
When will I see results?
You will see noticeable results on day 3 or 4, when the superficial tissue has peeled off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath.
Who is a candidate for a Pearl treatment?

Does Cutera have an FDA clearance for the Pearl laser?
